Owen F. Duffy, III graduated in 1975 from the State University of New York Maritime College at Fort Schuyler with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Marine Transportation. From 1975 until 1988, he served as a licensed deck officer on a variety of merchant vessels trading worldwide including reefer ships, products tankers and bulk carriers. He was Master of several merchant vessels, including tankers and bulk carriers, before coming ashore to study law.
Mr. Duffy received his Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law in New York in 1989 and was admitted to the New York bar in January, 1990. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Federal Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and is, also, a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States.
Mr. Duffy has special expertise with admiralty matters and investigations of all types of maritime casualties and maritime criminal actions, including collision, fire, heavy weather, pollution and hull & machinery damage cases. In addition, he handles all types of shipping disputes including commercial claims that have involved the arrests of vessels, maritime attachments, maritime liens, limitation of liability, all types of charter party disputes, contract of carriage claims and trading disputes. He is an active and successful litigator with respect to a wide variety of shipping claims in the U.S. Federal Courts throughout the United States and, also, in arbitration before the Society of Maritime Arbitrators in New York.
