Eugene J. O'Connor is a senior partner with over thirty-five years of experience in maritime and environmental law. He is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (BA, 1972) and Fordham University School of Law (JD, 1975), his practice is focused on marine pollution, litigation of ship casualties, cargo defense and arbitration of charter party disputes.
Additionally, Mr. O'Connor is recognized as an expert on OPA 90 and in representing Responsible Parties with respect to oil spill response, natural resource damage assessments (NRDA), defense of third party claims and claims for reimbursement to the National Pollution Fund. He has written and lectured extensively on these subjects in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Mr. O'Connor has acted as counsel for the Responsible Party in numerous oil pollution incidents, including many of the largest post-OPA '90 cases, the B-155 (1993) in Tampa Bay and the NORTH CAPE 1996) in Rhode Island, the ATHOS I (2004) in Philadelphia and the GENMAR PROGRESS (2007). He has also been counsel on several coral damage cases in Puerto Rico, Florida, Hawaii and U.S. Pacific Territories, including the FORTUNA REEFER (1997), the MARGARA (2006), the MATTHEW (2009) and the PORT STEWART (2009) in Puerto Rico the ATC 350 (1998) in Florida, and the CAPE FLATTERY (2005) and VOGETRADER (2010) in Hawaii.
Mr. O'Connor is married, with three children, and is a member of The Maritime Law Association of the United States, American Bar Association, and the Connecticut Maritime Association.
